Reunion 98

June 26-27, 1998

Remarks from Dr. Brotak: Our first ever ATMS Reunion was held on Friday and Saturday June 26th and 27th. The kickoff event was a dessert in the Robinson Hall Lobby on Friday night. Over 40 people gathered to renew friendships and tour the Met Lab. Some of the grads hadn't seen the Lab or each other in over 10 years. Saturday morning saw a breakfast at the Pisgah View Ranch. Again over 40 people enjoyed the home style meal and the company. After breakfast, Henry Reges and Stuart Hinson (both '97) lead a hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Upper Falls at the Graveyard Fields. The main event was the Saturday evening dinner in the Owen Conference Center. Over 50 people attended. Dave Lipson ('89) came all the way from Wyoming and Andy Gorelow ('92) came in from Nevada. Each of the three full-time ATMS faculty meet brief remarks as did special guest, Chancellor Patsy Reed. Thanks to the Bookstore and the Student Chapter of the AMS, every graduate won a door prize. A good time was had by all. Liz and I want to thank all of the graduates who attended the reunion. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to spend more time with each of you. For those of you who couldn't make it and those who would like to come again, the next reunion should be in a few years. Perhaps, the year 2000 when the department will be 20 years old.
