The map at 700hps gives both omega and the relative humidity however, it is not clear how this correlates to LDIA or how to calculate the LDIA values from omega and relative humidity. Is there an equation to calculate LDIA from omega and relative humidity? The petterssen term for LDIA is stated in terms of diabatic heating, specific heat capacity at constant pressure and the density. Also, the description document asks us to assume that LDIA is 70% of LAD. If so, is LTHAD all that is needed to calculate both LAD and LDIA? Answer to #2 ------------ You cannot come up with the magnitude of LDIA until you have determined the magnitudes of LTHAD and LAD (re-read the project description carefully). The 700 hPa maps of RH and omega only tell you if LDIA is contributing toward cyclogenesis or having no contribution.
