Question

We're trying to calculate the wind speed at the surface. We think we can calculate the thermal wind vector using the hypsometric equation 
and the thickness contours, however we aren't sure where to go from there.  We think we need the geostrophic wind at the 500 mb level, 
but are unsure how to calculate it.

You can calculate the geostrophic wind at the 500 mb level using relationships that were given early in the Kinematics and Dynamics review
