Increasing the Utilization of Weather Data for Safety Applications and Traveler Information

Low Visibility

Project Description

Reductions in visibility due to fog pose a significant hazard for motorists. Timely information regarding potentially foggy conditions could alert drivers to hazardous conditions and lead to behavioral changes that could decrease the likelihood of a crash. This effort aims to develop short-term, localized visibility predictions for use in traveler information systems and forensic analyses and will explore technologies for disseminating visibility-related weather information to travelers.
