Brief Description

This three-credit course is a field trip to the Great Plains to forecast and observe severe convective storms from 13 May to 24 May 2024. An article detailing the pedagogical approach appears in the Journal of Geoscience Education. Activities in past years have included a presentation and forecasting exercises by NOAA Storm Prediction Center forecasters; a discussion with scientist, photographer, and seasoned chaser Dr. Chuck Doswell; presentations on applying to graduate school, internships, and career opportunities in meteorology; and tours of the National Weather Center, phased array radar, the Radar Operations Center and a WSR-88D, television studios, and private forecasting companies. Enrollment requires an application available on the left. Applications are due at 5:00 p.m. EDT on March 25, 2024.
