Scientific Writing (3 credit hours)

Scientific Writing

Scientific Writing fulfills the department's "Writing Intensive" requirement. There are distinct differences in style and substance between more traditional writing and writing for a scientific audience. It is vitally important that science writers know their audience, communicate information clearly but concisely, and anticipate objections or questions and answer them. We practice these concepts and more by writing our own scientific journal article throughout the semester.

Peer review is an essential part of this class - many days are spent in small groups reading and evaluating each other's work. At the conclusion of the class, students are well prepared to write their own scientific articles in a variety of forums, whether it be graduate school, government agencies, or private business.
