This course is one of two introductory courses in meteorology. Unlike ATMS 171/173, this class
does not contain a laboratory section. ATMS 103 satisfies the "scientific perspectives" requirement for
the UNCA Liberal Arts Core (LAC). The class sizes
range from around 10 up to a maximum of 20. Many potential ATMS majors take this course during
their first or second semester at UNCA.
Topics in this physics based course cover a broad range of areas, including radiation, temperature,
humidity, weather forecasting, thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, climate, and climate change.
The material is delivered primarily in lecture format, though I do a lot of in class work as well
as field observation.
