Sam is from a small town, just north of Winston-Salem, called King, NC. Her interest in meteorology started when her local meteorologist, Lanie Pope, came to visit her elementary school. Ever since then she has been fascinated by weather and hopes to work closely with tornadoes in the future. In her spare time, Sam enjoys working with children in her community. She is a member of S.T.R.I.V.E., a university sponsored mentor program, and spends a lot of time in classrooms around the region. Sam plans to graduate in the spring of 2020 with a degree in Broadcast Meteorology and a teacher licensure in elementary education. Contact Sam at

Jasmine is currently an undergraduate student at UNC Asheville obtaining a degree in Mass Communication and a minor in Atmospheric Science. Her love of weather did not come at an early age, as she was afraid of thunderstorms. Fear turned into fascination in her adult life and now her favorite weather phenomenon is hurricanes. After graduating in August of 2018, Jasmine will have an AS, and a BA in Mass Communications. She hopes to one day become a broadcast meteorologist to combine her love of communication with weather. Ty Higginbotham

In 2007, Ty fell in love with weather. A thunderstorm built over the Smoky Mountains and developed into a severe thunderstorm with many cloud-to-ground lightning strikes and loud roars of thunder. A safe distance away, Ty watched the thunderstorm through its entire lifespan. That is when it clicked. Ty is currently enrolled at UNC Asheville pursuing his Bachelors degree in Atmospheric Sciences with a concentration in Weather Forecasting. He is currently in an internship with the Air Force 14th Weather Squadron in downtown Asheville. He went on a severe weather field experience in May of 2017. Ty chased tornadoes, supercells, and large hail events. This experience allowed him to visit the Storm Prediction Center, National Weather Service in Norman, KOCO 5 News Station, and many more places. His expected graduation date is May 12, 2018. Ty is excited to take his knowledge of the Atmospheric Sciences and put them into his career, wherever it may take him. You can contact Ty via email at

Tyler is originally from Brookfield, WI, but is pursuing his life long dream of being a meteorologist here at UNC Asheville. His passion for weather came at a very young age. Ever since he can remember he has been fascinated by the weather. Growing up in Wisconsin, he loved the change of seasons, from the winter storms to the summertime thunderstorms. He is currently part of three undergraduate research positions. Last summer Tyler had an Internship at WKRN News 2 in Nashville, TN and will be interning again this summer at CNN in Atlanta, GA. When he is not looking at the weather, you can find him hiking in the mountains or trying out all the great food Asheville has to offer. He will graduate in December of 2018. Chris Pant is a Broadcast Meteorology student at UNC Asheville. He can be found reporting on Asheville's weather on his YouTube and Twitter pages on a bi-weekly basis. It is an exciting time for Chris, as Asheville's terrain and atmosphere remind him of the Catskill Mountains he trekked as a kid. Chris was born in the mountainous areas of New York and spent most of his adolescence in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Everything from hurricane seasons to blizzards are familiar to him! It's been almost eight months since his first broadcast for UNC Asheville's weather team, and Chris is excited to see where his skills in reporting weather take him after he earns his Atmospheric Science degree in the spring of 2019. When he's not studying for his next final, Chris can be found at home in Emerald Isle enjoying the salty breeze from his kayak. Let him know how he's doing on his twitter @ChrisPantWx!
